Training for Single Mothers

Project Goals and Objectives

Parent training using the E.C.C. (Emotional Cognitive Coaching) method for single mothers of children with learning disabilities and ADHD.

The Need and Scope of the Problem

The Nitzan Association regularly receives hundreds of calls to our counseling hotline. One type of call that stands out particularly is those from single mothers struggling with the daily challenge of supporting their children while dealing with their child’s difficulties.
The picture that emerged from most of these calls showed that all these mothers, in addition to the basic difficulty of being a single mother, appeared to have recently found themselves losing their jobs due to the challenging economic situation in the country, facing an uncertain future.
In addition to the existential anxieties intensifying during these times, they are dealing with challenging children who are also struggling with learning difficulties, social problems, and emotional challenges. These mothers lack the tools to cope with their children’s difficulties and with the world around them.
Over the years, when we saw children struggling at home and at school, we treated the children to prevent them from developing academic gaps compared to their peers, accumulating frustrations, and being at risk of dropping out of the education system. However, despite the extensive work done with the children, we did not provide parents with appropriate tools for coping.
The difficulties experienced by single mothers are primarily related to feelings of isolation when facing the system. Financial responsibility falls entirely on them, and in some cases, they work multiple jobs just for basic survival.

E.C.C Method

Parent training using the E.C.C. method – Emotional Cognitive Coaching is a research-based method.

This is a parent-focused intervention method aimed at providing individualized support tailored to the parent’s needs and difficulties, to create change in their life and influence the functioning and management of the family in general and the child in particular. This is a short-term intervention where the coach accompanies the parent through a process of self-reflection. Coaching enables the parent to develop their abilities and self-confidence so they can implement new coping strategies and increase their child’s learning opportunities in daily life. It helps refine skills and abilities, reshape behavioral patterns when dealing with crises and conflicts, and bring about improvement in relationships across different life circles. The goal of the process is to bring about change and advance the parent from a feeling of helplessness and repeated failures to a place where they experience successes that energize and nourish their faith and hope as a foundation for creating genuine dialogue with their child.

Project Implementation

In this project, we seek to provide mothers with tools to cope with their children’s difficulties through a coaching process that the mother will undergo over 12 weeks.

Approximately three months after the completion of the process, a follow-up meeting will be held to evaluate the impact of the program on the mother and the family.

Up to three personal or couple sessions of 90 minutes each with Nitzan professionals

We would be delighted to have you join us in helping as many mothers as possible to receive the support they desperately need.

There are moments when you realize that hope is not just a word. It is an action. It is small hands holding a flowerpot, shining eyes watching a first sprout emerge, and the smile of a child rediscovering that they are capable.
